River Red Gum Tree
The stately river red gum is the most widespread and best loved of all Australian Eucalyptus. With their heavy twisted branches and attractively mottled bark, river red gums stand apart from other eucalyptus but scientist use their shape of their flower buds to distinguish between 2 or more varieties .Delhi has specimens of both kinds.

Australian River Red Gum is a common and fast-growing timber variety. Regular Australian Red Gum timber finds its way into many activities, including furniture pieces and woodwork. It is incredibly durable but also very strong.
Bark : Grey yellow or pink grey, shedding in flakes to expose pale under bark. It has a stocking of darker bark at its base. Bark rough at smooth, shed in flakes or ribbons higher up exposing startling white or creamy trunk.
Season:
Leaves : Evergreen thinning out in February. Leaves long and narrow, curved tapering to a point up tp 25 cm long dull green or grey green.
Flowers : A little erratic mostly in October- November. Flowers like a shape of the buds and their deciduous 'caps' is used to separate two varieties of the species.
Buds : are either round with a long 'beak' or conical with barely any beak and serve to distinguish the 2 varieties.
Fruit : Ripen about 3 months after flowering. Fruit small woody capsule with 3-5 (usually 4) projecting 'teeth'.
Trunk : usually short thick, often leaning to one side.
Twigs : Reddish when young.
