Neem Tree  An avenue tree. can be seen -Safdarjung, Lodi,, Prithviraj, Ashok Road etc.

 A lot has happened to Delhi in second half of 20th century. The population of the twin  cities exploded. Its development causes environment crisis. Description : Moderate size tree up to 10 meters hieght. Leaves alternate, pinnate, subopposite , obliquely lanceolate, dentate acute inflorenses, an axillary panicle, fruit a drupe, oblong, yellow. 

NEEM Azadirachta indica :  The tree can live up to 200 years or more. A familiar middle sized tree with a billowing cumulus crown, almost but not quite evergreen in Delhi. A short trunk and dense canopy make it wind firm and an excellent shade tree. Many part of tree are credited with medicinal value, even a watery exudation from trunk known a 'neem toddy' . The principle active compound in the leaves-'azadirachtin'- repels insects. The leaves are much used by holy men to help them resist the allurement of beauty. Seasons : Leaves : begin to fall in mid-March starting from the top of the trees, new pink leaves emerge quickly afterwards. Canopy renewed by early April. Leaves feather compound up to 40 cm long crowded at the ends of twigs. A leaf has 4-8 pairs of pointy leaflets with a solitary terminal leaflets (sometimes missing). The leaflets are slightly curved with toothed margins. New leaves start out a subtle tint of pink darkening to a shiny green. Neem leaves are 1 pinnate. 
Flower : in second week of April., peaking in the forth week. Flowers white and short, branching clusters emerging from leaf axis. Bisexual and purely male flowers are usually found on the same tree. The flowers open in the afternoon with the delicate honey scent that is strongest at night. A flower has 5 slender, spreading petals and 10 stamens fused into a central column. Fruit : Follow quickly, ripening and dropping in July. Up to 2 cm long with a thin pulp enclosing a hard stone. Green at first, bright yellow when ripe. Its fruits are oblong.

Neem — also known as ‘Bevu’ in Kannada — is a fast-growing tree which can reach to a height of 15 -20 meters in its lifespan. In Bengaluru, we find Neem tree growing almost everywhere. Neem is sacred and also respected because of its ability to cure a variety of diseases.
