Body Constitution
Body Constitution is the individual's body condition that makes an individual susceptible to certain diseases but not others.
Introduction
Inborn characteristic determine the constitution of each individual. When vata, pitta and kapha are in balance, the individual tends to remain healthy from birth. Dosas are tissues Dhatus when they maintain balance and sustain the body; they become malas (waste) when perturbed and cause disorders.. If one of the dosas dominates over the other two, the body constitution becomes vatala, pittala and slesmala on the strength of the domination dosa.
A dosa -dominated constitution predisposes one to disease. Moreover, the body constitution has a bearing on treatment because all taste rasas are compatible with the individual whose dosas are in balance. Whereas those in whom one or other dosa is dominant should be administered diet and medication with rasas opposed to the dominant dosa.
There are malas other than dosas which can cause morbidity. When disturbed or excessive in quantity malas may obstruct the seven orifices in the head (where the sense organs are located)

Increase or decrease in the level of malas from food (ahara malas) or the food waste are indicated by a signs such as a sense of heaviness and constipation on the one hand and a feeling of lightness and easy passage of stools on the other.
As diseases strike those who neglect a code of healthy living, it is incumbent on sensible people to follow the code. This would include the elimination of the accumulated dosas by the administration of
- Emetics
- Purgatives
- Enema
- Nasal evacuation.
During the first month of spring, rainy season and winter.
The evacuative measures should always be given after lubricant therapy (oil massage) and fomentation (Swedana) There after appropriate tonics in the form of Rasayana or rejuvenate therapy and preparation for virility should be given. These measures will settle the dhatus and retard ageing which may be a result of imbalance of dhatus.
When disorders are apparently caused by external agents such as insects and animals, poison, wind and fire the underlying cause may be imprudent conduct. This may also account for jealousy, sorrow, fear, anger, pride and hatred. Renouncing irrational behavior, control of sense organs retaining a memory of events, awareness of time place and self and observing good conduct are the means for the prevention of diseases called by exogenous.
Finally understanding and observing the instruction of authorities will prevent illness and provide relief from them. The company of the virtuous, those full of years and wisdom, good conduct, equanimity, tranquity and freedom from cares, should be sought in humility and cultivated because their words ( and the very sight of them) are auspicious.
The right minded who aspire for happiness here and here after should not only adopt a healthy diet and right conduct but also wholesome in action.
