CHANDNI : Usually a leggy bush but sometimes a small tree evergreen with a  thin, crooked trunk. Planted for its evergreen foliage and white pinwheel flowers and regarded as a down market jasmine, though it is unrelated. Flowers : in a clusters at the end of twigs, 5 white pinwheel petals on a long tube, mouth of tube yellow.

Plumeria : Its a popular ornamental tree. In Hinduism it is considered to be one of the holiest of trees and is planted near temples. A small near evergreen frangipani bearing clusters of fragrant flowers with narrow pure white petals and a deep yellow throat in the center. There are two main varieties (obtuse and sericifolia). All forms have rounded blunt leaves which help to distinguish it from other frangipanis. Season: Leaves almost but not  evergreen. In late February or early March the leaves may blacken and fall if there is a dry cold snap. Flowers: In large terminal clusters form a long common stalk. The petals of the white frangipani scarcely  overlap if at all. Flowers  in April peaking in May and again in the rains. Fruit seen in May. Plumeria flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths. The flowers have no nectar and simply trick their pollinators. The moths inadvertently pollinate them by transferring pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar.

A medium sized ornamental tree with spreading irregular canopy. Widely cultivated for its arrestingly  beautiful, drooping sprays of bright yellow flowers. Flowers in late April, peaking by mid - May. The rains always induces more flushes of flowers that can last  into October. Flower fragrant, bright yellow,. In drooping sprays up to 60cm long with the oldest flowers at the base. The intensity  of the yellow varies. A flower has 10 stamens of unequal length grouped 3-4-3. Only 3 longer one are fertile. 
Fruit long cylindrical pipes (fistula in Latin) up to 60 cm long. The seeds inside are stored in little compartments encased in a strong smelling, sweetish pulp. Ripe pods are black and fall whole to the ground. The sweetish fruit pulp is an effective purgative, safe even for pregnant women. Amaltas depends on jackal, pigs and bears for assisting with natural degeneration. Many forest animal feed on a sweetish pulp of the fruit.

Jarul , Lagerstroemia speciosa : One of the Delhi's most beautiful flowering trees, with a low spreading crown. The flagship species of a spectacular genius of flowering tree (and shrubs) whose rose like flowers with crinkly petals are displayed in large erect clusters. Seasons : Leaves start turning red and purple in December and are shed in February-March. New leaves in April.. Flowers :  A pink, mauve or lilac, about 7 cm wide, in large erect branching clusters. Starting from the base flower begins to open before dawn, but only a few at a time. Old flowers fade to pale pink or white. Each flower has 6-7 spoon shaped petals, very crinkly and wavy. Flowers from late April to June, another flush in rains.. Fruits are formed in August, remaining for long on the tree.
